Giraffe_SafariWest
This is a four month old giraffe at Safari West, a wildlife preserve in Santa Rosa, California. These magnificent animals can reach up to 20 ft. tall, and their heart weights around 25 lbs. Giraffes have a very intricate series of elastic veins at the base of their brain, and valves in their neck, preventing them from having brain damage when they bend down to drink water. There are 9 subspecies of giraffes found in Africa, the most endangered being the Rothschild’s giraffe. There are only 670 of this subspecies remaining in Uganda, and Kenya.
