A lioness with her cub in Uganda

Working with tigers and lions during my animal career in the US was a pivotal time in my life. I dreamed of someday being with the big cats in the wild. Years later that dream was realized in beautiful Uganda. This scene here at Murchison Falls with a lioness carrying her infant gently in her mouth, will forever be etched in my memories. At this very moment with the pride of lions, I embraced the wilderness that was cradled deep within my soul. The very essence that makes me human is because of these precious animals. I exist to be a part of them. It is a great privilege and honor to photograph the creatures we share this earth with. My greatest hope is that we will preserve them for generations to come. I struggle to have hope in conservation, but in some small way, maybe my images can help people appreciate the spectacular natural world we live in.

Lioness in Karmoja, Uganda

I love lion moms. They are so caring and protective over their offspring. This gorgeous lioness killed a zebra and was waiting patiently for her cubs to come over for breakfast. She wouldn’t let them out of her site. I photographed her in Kidepo Valley, Karamoja in the northeast region of Uganda.
