Thank you for visiting my website. I am the CEO of Chris Austria Safaris Ltd., a registered travel company in Kampala, Uganda. I lead wildlife, and cultural safaris in Uganda, and Rwanda. For more information on our customized expeditions, email me at Chris@ChrisAustria.com, visit the Uganda page on the site menu, and download this itinerary austria_itinerary_18day-1.pdf
I am also wildlife conservationist, photographer, videographer, and founder of Chris Austria Productions LLC. Our mission is to empower communities and conserve wildlife through film, photography, and music. We are filming a documentary in Uganda on the strong connection between community development, rural health care, and wildlife conservation. In order for conservation strategies to be effective, and sustainable, they must address the needs of the communities that share the fragile habitat with wildlife. These needs include health care, and alternative livelihoods. Conservation, community development and planetary health are inextricably entwined.
I have worked with tigers, lions, and other animals at Six Flags in Vallejo, CA, the San Francisco Zoo, and the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary. I have also served as a tiger analyst for the ABC television network, and worked on tiger documentaries with National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures. My work with the big cats inspired within me, a deep desire to protect endangered species, and their ecosystems.
My career eventually led me to wildlife conservation and eco-tourism projects in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda. I worked for Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda. Founded in 1998 by Dr. Jane Goodall, and a group of Ugandan trustees, the sanctuary is home to 49 orphaned chimpanzees that have been rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
